Welcome!

Greetings Fellow Alumni, Family, and Friends,

Allow me to start by saying that it is truly an honor to have the opportunity to serve you.  I am in awe of what BAA has accomplished since our chartering in 2016.  Over the last 7 years, The UA Black Alumni Association has grown tremendously and we endeavor to keep it going.

BAA Leadership has built a reputation of excellence and is known for Signature events such as "Houndstooth and Heels: Black Alumni Weekend", the Freshman Pinning Ceremony, BAA Annual Golf Tournament, "BAMA Connect" and our member webinars.  BAA is committed to "The Collective" by bringing together our experienced alumni, recent grads, current students, and future scholars.

BAA is strongly engaged in philanthropic work supporting our minority preference scholarships:

While focusing on growing our scholarships will help increase diversity at the capstone over the future, they also work to defray tuition costs for current students at UA.

As BAA celebrates 60th year of Inclusion at the University of Alabama, we will have the Malone Award, PicNic, NPHC Greek Assembly Hall grand opening and other commemoration events. I hope you can see that we have much in store.  We call upon each of you to give of your time, talent, and treasure.  Over this next term, we are seeking to:

·      Increase visibility with and provide support for current students

·      Create more networking events for Alumni

·      Recognize the success of Alumni

·      Increase minority participation & presence at the University

From Bama Connect, to the MJs, to our introducing new traditions such as the "Through The Doors" Freshman Pinning Ceremony, and more; there is certainly a place for you and your ideas.  We need you. I humbly encourage you to become a member, join a committee, and get engaged.

I look forward to serving as your new President.

Thank you and ROLL TIDE!

Derek L. Cunningham, MBA
